Take Home Activity!!

Hello Panther families! 

On your Year at a Glance, you’ll see on January 17th we have planned a take home activity! I’m excited to share more about this as the activity is ready to go home for this three day weekend! 

Students will get their own book (K/1 - Pete the Cat. 2/3: Magic Tree House Titanic. 4/5 Magic Tree House Civil War.). Also included is a 4X4 canvas, a paint palette, a paintbrush, a QR code that leads to the Art for Kids Hub that has directed draw videos, paint, and a fruit snack. 

Since this is a family engagement activity, we encourage you to do the activity with your student! This is a great opportunity to touch on some of the Core Competencies our personalized learning team put together. The Core Competencies are:

• Perseverance 
• Communication
• Critical Thinking
• Collaboration 
• Innovation 
• Community Connection 

Some questions you might ask as you do the art project together are: 

• What colors do you see in your picture?
• Why did you choose this picture to paint?
• How does your painting make you feel?
• If your painting was a part of a story or a book, what might happen next?

Students this age love to do the reading themselves, but they also secretly love being read to! You could consider taking turns having them read to you (practicing their fluency) and you reading to them (sweet bonding time like when they were little). Some questions you might ask your student as you read are:

• (Before beginning) What do you think might happen in this story?
• What do you think will happen next?
• Kinder/1st: How was Pete helpful in this story?
• What parts of this story do you think were based on facts?
• What did you like about this story? 
• 2nd - 5th grade: What else do you know or want to know about the Civil War/Titanic?
